7th Birthday down on the farm

Yesterday was Piper’s 7th birthday party. There were about 30 kids that came (and roughly as many adults), and the theme was barnyard. We rented a petting zoo (Old McDonald had a Party), and they came and set up in the backyard with a horse, cow, 2 goats, 2 rabbits, and a baby pig named Honeybake (Josh, the man who runs the petting zoo told us “it’s better than bacon.” I guess he has a point?). The kids all had the chance to ride the horse, and we took pictures of all of them that we put on magnets for part of the party favors. Luckily, Josh didn’t bring any chickens, because that was lunch (chicken, Brunswick stew, macaroni and cheese — homemade, not the blue box—, green beans, and biscuits. And a ridiculous amount of lemonade that we somehow ran out of. We’re posting all of the pictures in a Picasa album so that parents can have copies. The cake was an edited version of one Meg found at Kroger-I’ll upload the original picture when I have a chance, in the meantime, the one that Piper had is currently our profile picture. The entire party was quite literally a backyard party, we had about six tables (and UGA tailgating paraphernalia, of course. GO DAWGS!) set up all over the yard, and an awesome cut-out where the kids could be animal faces that I rigged up from the deck stairs. The party lasted 3 hours, and it ran amazingly smoothly. The petting zoo was extremely efficient-they are so great with the kids, they brought snack packs for the kids to feed to the animals. The food was a hit, and the cake was almost completely obliterated after singing happy birthday. It was so exhilarating (and exhausting, I can’t lie- getting up at 7 does that…) and we really don’t think we can wait until Piper’s 8th birthday to do this again. I guess it’s sort of a strange way to get a rush, but whatever works. Set me up with a Diet Coke IV (haha) and I can do anything.
